Last night Mr. David Smith a Project Engineer with Piping Technology & Products Inc was the guest speaker at the Society of Piping Engineers and Designers meeting. The topic, "Power Plant Pipe Support Design: Lessons Learned" was informative and well received by the Houston piping community. David shared lessons learned, common pitfalls, and innovative solutions that he has encountered throughout his career.

Raymond,

The presentation was not heavy on the technical side; more or less a presentation of field problems that could have been avoided with proper design practices and/or resulted from meeting construction deadlines. The presentation was a little too heavy (in my opinion) on discussing the capabilities of the presenters employer. But, that is almost always a problem with letting a supplier speak at a technical forum. Fortunately, the gathering brought together like minded individuals and was a good learning experience for the dozen Cubs present. The lasagna was good too.

Last spring, WFI provided an excellent, non-supplier oriented discussion of actual failure that met the B31.1 design code; a presentation worthy of a detailed post. If there is interest I can see if an outline (or the .ppt) is available for distribution.

Regards,
Robin
